Saitama Udon Culture

Saitama is the second largest udon producing prefecture in all of Japan.

The cultivation of wheat became popular during the Edo period (1603-1868) and since then, the custom of eating udon took root in various places in Japan that the started “local udon”.
The famous products of Niiza city are handmade udon and carrots, so they combined these two together to make “carrot udon”.
Carrot udon is udon that has a carrot paste kneaded in. The unique taste of carrots disappears in the process, so children who dislike carrots will also eat this delicious noodle.
