Create your own bonsai at the Omiya Bonsai Village!

My name is EKK, a staff member of the Saitama Tourism Division and my hobby is taking photos!

There is a bonsai village that has 6 bonsai gardens and a bonsai art museum located in Omiya, which is only a 30 minute train ride from Tokyo.

Bonsai is a part of Japanese culture that is beloved all over the world.

In 2017, the World Bonsai Festival was held here and many bonsai enthusiasts visited from all over the world.

This time, we will be introducing this sacred bonsai place in Omiya.

■Omiya Bonsai Art Museum

The Omiya Bonsai Art Museum in a 10 minute walk from the JR Utsunomiya Line Toro Station.

The museum has both galleries and gardens. Inside the gallery you can see how Japanese architecture is decorated with bonsai.

There are many valuable bonsai in the garden that represents Japan.

You can enjoy every season in this garden, from beautiful flowers to autumn leaves.

When I visited I saw the autumn leaves, but in you can see the cherry blossoms and plum blossoms in the spring. I recommend viewing the flowers with the bonsai.

There are also audio guides in English, Chinese, and Korean, so you can enjoy everything in detail, such as historical facts and how to look at bonsai.

Bonsai Restaurant

After admiring the bonsai at the museum, I recommend making your own original bonsai tree. This Bonsai Restaurant is located in front of the museum,

and you can make your own bonsai here. The staff also speak English, so you do not have to worry.

This time, I tried to make Kokedama, which are moss shaped like balls.

Even beginners can make these easily since they carefully explain the process, and in the end, you feel like you are becoming a bonsai master.
