 Walk Around Kawagoe at Night

~Coedo Beer and Sumurai Patrol~

Nice to meet you, I am SK8 and I will be teaching you about sightseeing in Saitama.  kawagoenight1

Today I want to introduce Kawagoe at night.

During the day there are many tourists, but Kawagoe at night is very different.

Kawagoe is the only existing town from the Edo period.

During the daytime many shops sell food such as sweet potato ice cream and sweet potato manju (steamed bun),

making it easy to walk around town while eating these small snacks.

【Art Cafe Elevert】

After walking around, I recommend taking a break at the Art Cafe Elevert.

This cafe is in a western style building, which is in stark contrast with the surrounding Edo-style Japanese buildings along the street.

You can drink craft beer made in Kawagoe, “Coedo Beer”, at this cafe.

They also sell Coedo Beer in front of the shop so you drink while strolling the town.

Business hours

11am ~ 6pm

6-4, Nakacho, Kawagoe-shi, Saitama, 350-0065, Japan

It is a quiet shop, so you can pass the time in a calming atmosphere.

【Sumurai Patrol】

Many of the shops lining the popular street are closed at night and the crowds thin out, but if you stick around you can see a different side of Kawagoe.

When the sun sets, the Kawagoe Magistrate Office Patrol Group comes out to make sure the town is safe.

They wear the same outfits as Edo period government officials and carry around wooden poles to promote fire safety in the town of Kawagoe.

They patrol the town every 2nd and 4th week of the month on Saturdays from 6pm to 7pm.

No reservations needed. If there is an opening that day, anyone is able to participate.

They have an English menu available. I recommend the Margarita pizza that is full of mozzarella cheese.

The shop carefully makes each pizza in a stone oven and they are cooked to perfection with cheese.

They have many other dishes such as pasta and dessert.

You can also have a memorable experience walking around Kawagoe at night, so please come and visit.
