Fudogaoka-Fudoson Soganji

Fudogaoka-Fudoson Soganji is a 400 year old temple in Kazo City, Saitama Prefecture.
On February 3rd there is a “Setsubun e oni oi mame maki shiki (Demon expelling bean festival)” that is a traditional festival that has been around for about 400 years. The roughness of this festival is rare in Japan, so every year there are many visitors that come to the temple to celebrate.
The bell that rings at the Toki no Kane is used as a signal, while three demons run around the corridor of the Fudoudou. The red demon carries a large torch, the blue demon brandishes a sword, and the black demon carries a club. The large torch that the red demon carries is about 3 meters long and weighs about 30 kilograms, which makes the demon look very powerful.
